Mind you the book is an early draft of " To Kill Mockingbird" and I think it would have been best left on the files.

what can i learn from that?

not to accept things at face value but to seek out opinion and different view points.. hence my question " do you believe man landed on the moon?.

T.D thank you for the comment. I assure you I started this thread because the subject is of interest to me. I do not claim to be an expert on each thread I start, ( if I were I probably wouldn't start the thread in the first place) I will continue to use this board as a discussion forum in which I will enjoy cross pollinating ideas with both experts and those like myself interested in the subject, in the hope that I acquire a broader knowledge on the subject matter.

Viviane. Thank you for your question. I do not intend to be be shot down like cannon fodder by your reply, and so will do some real research before I reply. I will however reply and look forward to your response.

I must say I didn't expect this thread to become so long, and thank you everyone for the posts serious and humorous which having just now leafed through I can not help but suspect man did in fact land on the moon.

I now hate being called 'sister'

since waking up i find i am bridling at being called 'sister'.

but it feels like an identity that is being forced on me.. i feel like shouting "i have a name you know!".

it is just me or does anyone else recognise this?.

Well I must admit I never really liked being referred to as " brother" and I am even less pleased with currently being referred to as " an apostate". So much for the " brotherly" love.

Let's get offensive...it's ridiculous

no let's start with t.v and what was never high culture- " confederate flag gets dukes of hazard yanked" .

ok this was just entertainment to me, that i never recall being racist.

Back on topic, times and the English usage change and I totally agree the " n " word is offensive now, but at the time Tom and Huck were written it was not used as a racial slur. However why I write, is I have just finished flicking on my remote trying to find an action and adventure show to watch, it's so depressing " F" this and " F" that. Every character a low life and aggressive. I could go on about what the real " talents" needed of an actress in these shows are,but let's end with the observation that most of these modern action and adventure shows would never have been able to get on air in my day, and I can't help but wishing that were the case today.

just wanted to talk about two odd df'ing experiences i had; which gave me the 'personal' lesson that there are some in the wt who are definitely not militants when it comes to the whole disfellowshipping regime... .

quite a while back, a brother turned up at my last congregation, he came to a few meetings and then i didn't see him for several weeks, and all of a sudden comes the announcement, he got df'd.

I seriously believe many in the organisation could no more individually shun a person than they would physically hurt another. Of course when in a group, and the group mentality takes over, it always amazes me how many compromise their own independent moral and ethical principals. But I have noted similar behaviour since I was a child at school, and it continues in the work place today.

Even when I was in good standing, I noted the congregation had its pack of wolves waiting to pounce, I used to pity them, now I am just glad I no longer have regular contact with them.

Before we move on to " high culture" let's stick with T.V and " The Tom and Jerry Show" This cartoon series has been banned because its racist and too violent-what next Bugs Bunny?

Here is a great website " Banned Books Awareness and Reading for Knowledge Website" please check it out,this list of books is incredible " Tom Saywer" " Huck Finn" and I must mention " Gone with the wind" as we also have talk of banning the movie.

Personally I don't think any book should be Banned,Its ridiculous, so thankfully we have the ALA office for intellectual freedom which records hundreds of attempts by individuals and groups to have books removed from our libraries and class rooms.

Was what i have written offensive to you, or do I have a point this banning of our past, our entertainment and our classic literature is ridiculous?

Well shortly after the " moon landing" American Airlines announced they were planning on future commercial trips to the moon. I believe more recently Richard Branson had similar ideas.
